The Emma B. Howe YMCA, located in Coon Rapids, has presented its 2011 Outstanding Community Volunteer Award to Bonnie Coffey, founder and president of CM Information Specialists (CMIS), a Fridley-based medical records service company.
A long-time YMCA member, Coffey has been actively involved in YMCA programs, projects, and classes. “She’s a true volunteer, always supportive of our YMCA staff and willing to do hands-on work, including handling special events,” said Chad Lanners, executive director of the Emma B. Howe YMCA.
By personally participating in the Y Partners spinning and cycling competitions last March, Coffey raised more than $1,200 in donations. She and her husband, Tony, helped the Emma B. Howe YMCA in reaching its Y Partners fund-raising goal of $196,700. These funds will be used to provide scholarships to economically disadvantaged people who would otherwise not have access to YMCA services, such as child care and swimming lessons.
